LWHS students have fun thinking outside the box
Students in Lake Washington High School’s Child Development class put their learning into creative action. Students begin the unit by learning about developmental stages of 3-4-year olds. Then they read children’s books, including “Four Bears in a Box” by Dreama Denver, and discuss how the books address children’s development. Students also focus on imaginative play, social cooperation and valuing the opinions of others. To bring their learning together, students connect with the “kid” version of themselves and work together to turn boxes into creative, interactive toys. With this project, “they had a lot of fun,” and are able to “tap into the youthful joy of imagination,” said teacher Sarah Fradkin.
